How We Support the Community
Gooch Construction offered a special gift of appreciation for Healthcare workers, first responders, police, etc. that were working selflessly to provide care and compassion to our loved ones while our country was being tested to rise up and do the unthinkable during the pandemic. An incredibly special University of Kentucky Healthcare worker, Rhonda Yocum-Saulsberry, MSN, RN, CNML Patient Care Manager, nominated her team, The Pulmonary Medicine Team Pavilion A 10th floor by submitting a small essay.
My name is Rhonda Yocum-Saulsberry. I am a Nurse Manager at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. I have a team of heroes that step-up every day and who has left me speechless during this time of crisis. My team includes nurses, physicians, social workers, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, housekeepers, dietary workers, etc.
COVID 19 has rocked the world. As the nurse manager of a Medicine/Pulmonary unit, my staff is truly on the frontline of this pandemic. We are the "Covid" unit here at UK. Through fear and uncertainty, they continue to work tirelessly to care for and comfort our patients, families, and each other. I am asked often, “how is your staff coping with all of this”? My response is "the way they always do”. Words are not adequate to describe how proud they make me. Through fears (and sometimes tears) they bring their “A” game and their smiles so that they can continue to provide excellent care to our patients while supporting each other in the process. I could not be more honored to lead and work beside such a dynamic team. They are brave, kind, and selfless during the pandemic and beyond.
I appreciate Gooch Construction for allowing me an opportunity to highlight the amazingness of my team. If I am awarded your generous gift, I would like for it to be presented to the Pavilion A 10th Floor Universal Team. The money will be used to celebrate our team by continuing to recognize them for a job well done. I will use the money to purchase lunch, cookies, etc. and to do things that will boost the morale of the team and inspire them to continue making Kentucky proud.
